On July 3rd our colleague Niklas Müller presented the findings of the GreenCityLabHuế project on the World Planning Schools Congress 2026 in Helsinki. His focus was on how co-creative methods can promote urban climate adaptation to face challenges of climate change in Vietnam like flooding, air pollution and urban heat islands.
In the GreenCityLabHuế project, stakeholder engagement through public workshops, design competition, surveys and policy roundtables reveal knowledge, demands, and preferences of local citizens, decision makers and civil society. This information is used to create showcases of nature-based solution to transform urban spaces into multifunctional commons and make climate adaptation tangible. Thereby, the GreenCityLabHue project challenges top-down planning and promotes regenerative relations with urban land. Lastly, the project’s learning are summarized in publications like an urban strategy for NbS governance and a best-practice handbook for NbS design, implementation, and management to ensure that the project results remain accessible
The project consortium wants to thank the whole team of the World Planning Schools Congress 2026 for its effort to ensure a well-organised event. We really appreciated having the chance to present our project’s result. The title of Niklas’ presentation was “Co-Creating Climate-Resilient Grounds: Nature-Based Solutions and Territorial Democracy in Huế, Vietnam”. It was part of Special Session SS16: Land and Soil.
