Within the framework of the SURE – Sustainable Development of Urban Regions programme, the GreenCityLabHuế (GCLH) project participated in the international conference “From Research to the Implementation of Nature-based Solutions in Southeast Asian Cities”, held from 15–17 December 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The conference was jointly organised by the SURE network and the Goethe-Institut Thailand, bringing together projects from Germany and Southeast Asia with the aim of promoting academic exchange, sharing practical experiences, and strengthening the link between research and the practice of sustainable urban development.

At the conference, representatives of GreenCityLabHuế presented the key outcomes of the Research & Development phase and shared the project’s transition towards the Implementation phase, with a strong focus on the co-creation and deployment of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and green–blue infrastructure in the city of Huế. The presentation highlighted the project’s co-creation approach, NbS models tailored to Huế’s urban and heritage context, as well as a clear and sustainable implementation roadmap.

In addition to the project presentation, GreenCityLabHuế (GCLH) actively participated in in-depth discussion sessions and contributed expert input to the launch of the book Navigating Urban Development – Learnings from East and Southeast Asia. The publication brings together key lessons and experiences on impact-oriented monitoring from projects within the SURE network, including practical implementation insights from Huế.

Through the conference, GreenCityLabHuế expanded its international cooperation network, exchanged experiences on implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the context of Southeast Asian cities, and reaffirmed its role in bridging research and practice. The insights and outcomes gained will be further applied in the upcoming implementation phase, contributing to enhanced climate change adaptation and sustainable urban development in Huế.

The GreenCityLabHuế project would like to sincerely thank the SURE network, the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), and the Goethe-Institut Thailand for their continued support and for creating a valuable platform for exchange and collaboration. We also extend our appreciation to all partner organisations, speakers, and participants whose contributions made the SURE 2025 conference a meaningful and inspiring event.
