The green wall model – a nature-based solution (NbS) at An Đông Primary School – continues to transform the school environment by enhancing the landscape, improving microclimate, and creating a healthy learning space. To keep these benefits alive, regular maintenance such as fertilizing, soil replacement, pruning, and watering is essential.

Originally equipped with an automatic drip irrigation system, the model has now been adapted to a direct tap connection for easier daily use. In 2025, the GreenCityLabHuế project refreshed the entire planting system with spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum), chosen for their uniform color, visual appeal, and strong resilience to Huế’s challenging climate.

The spider plant is a hardy, fast-growing species that thrives in limited soil, tolerates drought, and requires little care. Its natural ability to purify the air—absorbing pollutants such as formaldehyde and smoke—makes it especially valuable in urban environments. With graceful green-and-white leaves and easy propagation through its plantlets, the spider plant combines ecological benefits with aesthetic charm.

Thanks to the project’s renewal efforts and the continuous care provided by teachers, students, and the local community, the NbS model at An Đông remains a living example of how nature-based approaches can flourish even in dense urban settings. Every small act—watering, pruning, or nurturing young shoots—helps sustain a greener, healthier learning environment, while also inspiring future generations to care for nature.
