The implementation phase of the GreenCityLabHuế officially started in July 2025. It focuses on the co-creation of nature-based solutions (NbS) designs in the form of urban green-blue infrastructure (GBI) interventions on two selected public spaces in the city of Hue. The implementation exemplifies good practices of NbS governance developed in the previous research and development (R&D) phase. The aim is to enhance local environmental quality, climate resilience, and sustainability, with a particular focus on measures to reduce urban heat stress, improve air quality and increase the amenity and recreational quality.

The GreenCityLabHuế engages a diverse range of stakeholders and the local community to collaborate in the co-creation of designs for site-specific NbS. The implementation itself will be conducted and financed by the local partners. To monitor the implementation scientifically, the project will assess the outcomes of the NbS measures and the effectiveness of the participatory co-creation approach. Two sites within the city of Hue were selected for this purpose: a public open space around the communal cultural house of Dinh Mon in Kim Long Ward in Huong Tho area and a designated part of the university campus of the Hue University of Science (HUSC) in the city center of Hue.

Lastly, the project will synthesize and disseminate findings and lessons learned to foster capacity building, support the exchange of knowledge, and encourage the mainstreaming of good practices of NbS development into local governance and planning. Accordingly, the project aims to enhance the city’s climate resilience and sustainability and set a good example for other cities in Vietnam.
