The GreenCityLabHuế Engages with the Định Môn Community and the University of Sciences
In October 2025, the GreenCityLabHuế project conducted initial engagement meetings with representatives of the Định Môn community in Kim Long ward and the University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC). These introductory discussions play an important role in listening to the preliminary needs, concerns, and local conditions of stakeholders before moving forward with detailed design of nature-based solutions (NbS) models in the Implementation Phase.
During the meeting on the 4th of October at Định Môn Community House, representatives from the local authorities and socio-political organizations expressed their expectations that the proposed cultural green space will enhance greenery and provide multi-generational public amenities. Discussions emphasized the need to ensure that the model is suitable for the community’s actual conditions, including a clear investment phasing plan, construction scheduling that takes into account Huế’s rainy season, and mobilizing social resources in a way that aligns with local capabilities. To effectively capture users’ needs, participants suggested prioritizing household paper-based surveys for broader accessibility within the community.
At the Hue University of Sciences (HUSC), located in the city center and widely used by students and high school learners, the institution expects the NbS space to support learning, research, well-being and create a hub for academic engagement. The meeting on the 7th of October recorded a shared direction toward a multifunctional design that increases greenery, reduces paved surfaces, and potentially integrates the university’s plant nursery to enhance ecological education. Both sides also plan to organize an academic exchange program on co-design in January 2026, enabling deeper involvement of students and faculty in shaping NbS models on campus.
These engagement activities lay an important foundation for co-creation between the project and local partners, ensuring that NbS models are developed based on contextual characteristics and the real needs of beneficiaries. The GreenCityLabHuế will continue consultation activities in the coming period, working toward green spaces that deliver lasting value for people and the urban environment of Huế.
